EHS graduate ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈs earn top honors at ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ 2024 Graduate Research Forum

Graduate ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈs Tyaira Smith and Jason Abram were among the top honorees at the ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ 2024 Graduate Research Forum, held on Nov. 1.

Tyaira Smith, a fourth-year doctoral ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ in educational leadership, earned top recognition in the oral presentation category for her work, “Fiction as Knowledge: Bridging a Comedic Drama and Research in the Context of Re-entry.” Smith’s research was guided by advisor Erica Fernandez, professor of educational leadership.

Jason Abram, a Master of Social Work (MSW) ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ, received a ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ Poster Presentation Award for his research, “Educators’ Knowledge on Human Trafficking.” Working with his faculty mentor, Kelli Rushek, assistant professor in the Department of Teacher Education, Abram plans to publish a research manuscript in 2025.

The forum showcased dozens of graduate ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ projects, with top presenters in both oral and poster categories receiving $300 in professional funds. Sponsored by the Patricia and Stephen Lang Graduate Research Support Fund, the Paxton Graduate Research Fund, and the ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ Graduate School, the event celebrates the innovative research of Miami’s graduate ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈs.
